Being summer we can't look past Splash Planet in Hastings! Open every day this is a seriously fun way to beat the summer heat! With a wide range of rides such as the sky castle screamer, the double dipper and the never ending river you can also enjoy bumper boats, kayaks and the pirate run obstacle course!
Staying with the theme of keeping cool in the summer heat you could take a trip to the quirky theme park The Waterworks in Coromandel Town. With features such as the water clock, the music box, Mr Bones and water cannons the kids (and adults) are guaranteed lots of fun. Dog friendly and with BBQ facilities it's great for a day out ...
For those who love a bit of adventure why not head along to Action World in Paihia with Tarzan swings, flying trapeze and jousting pole this is just a small part of the great activities all safe with a specially developed airbag landing system! There's also bungy jumping, a waterslide, high wire and lots more - let the kids feel as if they are part of the circus!!
Another great spot for family entertainment and activities is to visit Silverdale Adventure Park in North Auckland. Great fun including a downhill luge, dual zipline, tube slide and opportunities for off road experiences. There's also plenty for the little ones including the Cosmic Playzone and Mini Moon Buggies!
If you like to be aMAZEd why not check out the Odyssey Sensory Maze with locations in both Auckland and Queenstown where you try to find your way out of the maze whilst experiencing challenging spaces, quirky physical obstacles, illusions, lighting effects, scents, sound effects and strange sensations!! It really is something quite unique and fun for all the family.

1. Visit Free Museums and Attractions
Make a list of all of the free museums and attractions in your area. Then work your way through the list until you've hit them all. Art museums, history museums, monuments ...
2. Visit the Library
Not only a a great source for books and movies there is also lots of free entertainment during the holidays and term time. Story time as well as educational programmes these are all free for you to use.
3. Jump on the Bikes
Dust off the bikes and head out. There are plenty of cycle trails all around New Zealand and ones right on your back door step. You don't have to wander far but if you are near any of the major well known trails you can always single out a short section and tackle this piece by piece! 4. Cook Together
Get into the kitchen and have fun! Start by seeking out a recipe, then head to the cupboard for the ingredients and get cooking! Cooking can be a lot of fun to teach and can be one great family adventure where you don't even need to leave home!!
5. Get out to the Beach

6. Have a Family Games Night
Open up that box of games and gather the family around for a Family Games Night. Then spend the evening rolling dice, shuffling cards and munching on snacks. I bet that competitive streak will prevail from some family members!

For those who have to head back to work and look for holiday fun for the kids there are loads of options. For those on the Hibiscus Coast how about checking out lots of great inhouse and outing activities with Fame Preschool, sporting activities with Kelly Sports or give cheerleading a try with All Star Infinity in Silverdale.
For those on the Shore get the kids into our beautiful outdoors with those things we all used to do as kids and join Conscious Kids or give them an opportunity to see if they want to learn to ride and spend time with horses with Headway Equestrian. Alternatively go the opposite, get the kids indoors and learning a great skill whilst having loads of fun with Snowplanet or another great sporting activity with learning fun and safe moves with North Shore Trampoline .
If you have any contact with kids with mild disabilities keep in mind Headway Equestrian can offer them great opportunities with lead rein rides, lessons and pony sessions.
